came to Idaho about 1884 with other relatives and settled in Rockla nd Valley. The County at that
time was Oneida and Malad, Idaho the county seat. Dewitt Clinton Ty ler and Cyrus A. Warner were
County Comissioners and Justice of the Peace. They helped build roa ds and the cemetaries in both
Rockland and American Falls. Grandfather Cyrus loved horses. He co uld speak an indian
language, knew about medicinal value in herbs and often went to hel p sick folk around Rockland
where there was no doctor."

their (family)one cow. This cow was a valuable asset and meant li fe to babies and young children.
While he was watching the cow a group of hungry Indians came and d ecided to drive the cow off
and eat it. Cyrus knew his duty. He drew his pocketknife and pre pared to defend his cow. The
Indians thought this was hilarious and rode off laughing. A few w eeks later, his mother went to the
door to find a delegation of Indians. They had brought a pair o f beautiful moccasins for the ' brave
little chief'. Without hesitation she divided the bread she ha d just baked with them. From this time
on there was friendship between the family and the Indians and pa rticularly Cyrus who did indeed
learn their language and when he was grown and an influential ma n he interceded for them in
courts when they got in trouble."
