Benedict Parker was born in Earlsville, Iowa on May 4, 1863. Whe n he was two years old the family
came west with an emmigrant train, headed for Oregon. At Larami e, Wyoming the Parker family left
the train and traveled with their wagon and four oxen to Salt Lak e City. The land around Salt Lake was
almost all taken up, so they were advised by Brigham Young to go o n south to Meadow Creek. William
Parker was killed in 1872, when Ben was 9, by a run a way team whil e gathering logs. He came to
Rockland Valley with his mother and step father, William Adshead, i n 1879, with the first homesteaders
to the valley. He celebrated his 16th birthday while camped at Littl e Creek, slightly west of where the old
road now runs.
Ben and Lou celebrated their golden wedding in 1935. THeir marriag e spanned the years from
buggies and horse drawn sleighs to autos.
