"U.C. Savant Dies At Santa Clara"
Santa Clara [California] - Charles L. Camp, a paleontologist at the Unive rsity of California at Berkeley and an authority on Western American Pion eer life, has died of cancer at 82. Camp, professor emeritus at the unive rsity and former chairman of its department of paleontology died Thursda y at Kaiser Hospital here, the University announced Friday. Although he r etired from the university staff in 1960, he continued writing and leadin g expeditions. His later years were spent helping excavate and prepare pu blic exhibitions for Nevada Ichthyosaur State Park, which he helped estab lish. Camp ws the author of "Earth Song, a Prologue to History,: and "Sto ries of Fossils," for school children. He also wrote books about frontie r history, including "Kit Carson in California" and "Desert Rats."
He is survived by his widow, Joanna, a son, and two daughters.
