2226. Merle Leon Bowen (ND) was born on 22 February 1895 in Bowling, Paulding Twp, Paulding Co., Ohio, USA. He died on 6 September 1969 in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida, USA. He was buried on 9 September 1969 in Continental, Putnam Co., Ohio, USA. >1895 Birth Record-Gives his full name and place of birth and birth date and parents. Place of birth is listed as Paulding Twp., Paulding Co, Ohio. It does not say Bowling Town. That comes from his WW! draft registration card. There is no Bowling Town now. There may have been then. The birth record gives his full names as Merle Leon Bowen. His parents were Henry N. Bowen and Jennie O. Light. (Note: his obit says he was born on the 27th of Feb., but his birth record says he was born on the 22nd).
>1910 US Census - Bloom Twp, Wood County, Ohio. He must be a child of a prior marriage of Birtha's since he was 15 years of age and Jennie and Henry were only married 9 years at this time. He apparently took Bowen as his last name.

>Death certificate for Merle Bowen says that Merle's parents are Nelsn Bowen and Jenny Light. It gives his death date as 6 Sep 1969, and place of death as St Petersburg, Pinellis Co., Florida. He was living there at the time. He was married. The informant of the death was Mrs. Lorene Bowen, his wife. He wasage 74 when he died. He was burried in Monroe Cemetery, in Continental, Ohio. Cooksey Funeral Home, Inc. was the funeral director (in Florida?). He was a pipe fitter working in the plumbing industry.

Former resident of Continental (Putnam Co., Ohio), and Toledo. He had lived in St Petersburg (Florida).for a number of years. He was the operator of a pool room in Continental for several years. Walker Funeral Home (in Continental?) handled the services.

>His obituary in the Putnam County Sentinel newspaper in Ohio says he was married in 1957. He would have been 62 years old when he was married. He would have been married for 12 years when he died. No children were mentioned in the obituary. It is unlikely, though possible that he had children.

Survivors include her brother, Sylvester Hein, Cantonment (Pensacola) and a sister Rose McGann, Providence, R.I. All Friends Funeral Home, St. Petersburg." No children are mentioned.
