"U.C. Savant Dies At Santa Clara"
Santa Clara [California] - Charles L. Camp, a paleontologist at the University
of California at Berkeley and an authority on Western American Pioneer life,
has died of cancer at 82. Camp, professor emeritus at the university and former
chairman of its department of paleontology died Thursday at Kaiser Hospital here,
the University announced Friday. Although he retired from the university staff
in 1960, he continued writing and leading expeditions. His later years were spent
helping excavate and prepare public exhibitions for Nevada Ichthyosaur State
Park, which he helped establish. Camp ws the author of "Earth Song, a Prologue
to History,: and "Stories of Fossils," for school children. He also
wrote books about frontier history, including "Kit Carson in California"
and "Desert Rats."
He is survived by his widow, Joanna, a son, and two daughters.
Funeral Services are pending.
Charles was a famous paleontologist at the University of California at Berkeley.
