189. Benjamin Woodbury Driggs Jr. was born on 31 January 1858 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, Utah, USA. Spent his boyhood and attended common schools at Pleasant Grove, Utah. Attended Univ of Utah, then graduated in law in 1886 from Univ of Michigan. He practiced law at Provo, Salt Lake City, and at intervals in Idaho. In 1887 he was elected alderman of Provo City Council. In 1888, he first heard of the Teton Valley in Idaho; it had been opened for settlers to locate on lands. He often spent summers there, sometimes remaining for a year or two.
When Teton Valley was first located, there was no post office within 40 miles. He and his brothers and their families signed a petition to the Post Office Department for an office there. The Department, seeing so many 'Driggs' names on the petition, called the place 'Driggs', which appellation it has since born. Don Carlos Driggs was the first postmaster and its first mayor. Benjamin, Jr., was city attorney. The Village of Driggs is now incorporated and a thriving community.
